概要
This class is to help students improve university level writing skills in English. Class activities will center on how to prepare, write and present essays. These activities will begin with paragraph development and proceed to essay writing. Students will write four essays in total. As a basis for most essays, students will also be given reading assignments in American Literature. Each reading will receive class discussion time.
目標
Students will learn both basic paragraph and basic essay organization for academic writing.
授業外の学習
Students must create four essays, three of which must be revised. Each essay will consist of five paragraphs. Word length will depend on the student. The content of the first essay will be free, but the remaining three essays will be based on in-class literature readings. Students will have three short reading assignments which will provide the basis for the three literature essays above. English copies of all stories will be provided on Moodle. Students will also have two separate single paragraph writing assignments, also requiring revisions. Both paragraphs will have free topics. Students will also have three out of class "extra" writing assignments, not requiring revisions. The schedule will be distributed in class and adjusted when necessary. The first extra writing will be a self-introduction. The remaing two will be reactions to stories posted on the class Moodle page. Students must read the stories, write their personal reaction and post their reactions on Moodle. They must also review feedback to their reactions sent by the instructor. Reading and writing time will vary according to the student. Each student is to write 600 words for credit on each assignment. Posting deadlines may change according to the class pace.
所要時間: 190 minutes. This may vary per week.
