概要

This course, taught in English, presents an opportunity for a dialogic pedagogy focused on some of the most important local and global issues of our time. We will engage in reflexive dialogue about notions of global citizenship, awareness, responsibility, participation, critical pedagogy, postcoloniality, conviviality, planetary citizenship, social justice, climate change, sustainability, ecological justice, and multiculturalism (among other themes), with an emphasis on dynamics related to countries located in the Global South and the Global North.

目標

-To develop a robust and cogent understanding of global citizenship education. -To consider values, principles, institutions, and problems associated with global citizenship discourse and related pedagogical practices. -To examine various types of global citizenship educational practices. -To inform the future practices of professionals in education and allied fields. -To theorize and articulate a narrative situated around core concepts of global citizenship education.

授業外の学習

Students are expected each week to: a) Study the assigned readings and videos (2-3 hrs). b) Prepare a concise reaction paper on the material offered for each class. The paper should be constructive and reflective in nature. It should end with a reflective question you would like to discuss in the class (0.5 - 1 hr). c) Prepare a short PowerPoint presentation (about a 10-Minute Talk) on one of the topics discussed in the seminar as a final project.
