SPECIAL TOPICS IN EDUCATION 4: GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP, HUMANITY EMPOWERMENT AND CRITICAL MORAL CONSCIOUSNESS

概要

This course will focus on the intersections of local and global citizenship, human empowerment, and critical moral consciousness. We will discuss globalization, ethics, democracy, diversity, access to resources, equity, participation, peace, and human rights (among other topics). We will examine readings from socio-philosophical figures, including Paulo Freire, Ron Barnett, Michel Foucault, Henry Giroux, and Jack Mezirow (among other authors).

-a systematic understanding of knowledge, and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights informed by scholarship and research in the study of globalcitizenship; -conceptual understanding that enables the student to evaluate critically current local and global issues. -a comprehensive understanding of notions related to globalization, global citizenship, humanity empowerment, critical moral consciousness, and ethics.

授業外の学習

Students are expected each week to: a) study the assigned readings and videos (2-3 hrs) b) prepare a concise reaction paper of the material offered for each class. The paper should be constructive and refl ective in nature. It should end with a refl ective questionyou would like to discuss in the class. (0.5 - 1 hr) c) prepare a short Power-Point presentation (about a 10-Minute Talk) on one of the topics discussed in the seminar as a fi nal project.
