概要

This class is designed to equip students with several important topics in the epistemology of education. The epistemology of education is the discipline that examines education in terms of truth, knowledge, and understanding. As recent epistemology has been focusing on epistemic dysfunctions, such as epistemic injustice, epistemologists and philosophers of education are starting to explore epistemic dysfunctions in education. This class provides students with the basic understanding of epistemic dysfunctions in education so that they can acquire the competence to critically consider contemporary issues in so-called non-ideal educational epistemology.

目標

There are two main goals of this course. First, students will acquire the basic understanding of historical and contemporary issues regarding various topics, including epistemic injustice, educational aims, and transformative experiences. Second, students will develop the competence to critically consider contemporary issues in education for themselves.

授業外の学習

Students are required to read assinged reading materials before class so that they can participate in the discussion in the class. Students are supposed to submit a short paper in each class. Moreover, students must finish a term paper.
