概要
What is your image of Africa, and where does your image of come from? This course explores a variety of materials—essays, maps, talks, films, and academic articles/books—to understand how we construct our image of the African continent and how it traces back to history. Ever since Africa was “discovered” by Europeans, Africa has always been central to shaping the world. Throughout the course, we will discuss Africa’s slavery and colonial experiences and their long-lasting impact. Also, we will dive into contemporary experiences and familiarize ourselves with the concept of decolonization to imagine the future of Africa and the world.
目標
1. Identify long-lasting impact of slavery and colonization on contemporary African experiences. 2. Build your skills of critical thinking by engaging in discussions of the course materials. 3. Create your definition of “decolonization” and discuss with your classmates to sharpen your definition. 4. Expand your image of Africa.
