INVITATION TO GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

概要

The purpose of this course is to cultivate environmental literacy among undergraduate students from overseas. Environmental literacy refers to fundamental knowledge about global environmental issues and the ability to accurately understand these issues and make informed judgments toward their resolution. It is an essential competence for individuals as humans living within both ecosystems and social-political systems. Global environmental issues are highly complex, encompassing not only the mechanisms of material circulation in the natural world, such as resource and energy dynamics, but also aspects related to citizens' awareness, lifestyles, politics, economics, finance, taxation, and international relations involving both state and non-state actors. In this course, we will approach global environmental issues as complex systems, drawing from both natural sciences and humanities and social sciences. We will systematically study global environmental issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and also introduce case studies on strategies for resolution. It's important to note that this course is part of a seminar series mainly taught by faculty members from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies.
