概要
This course is a series of introductory lectures to help the students understand and analyze the contemporary foreign and security policy of Japan in the age of the great power rivalry and globalization. The instructor provides some of the basic concepts and discusses a number of contemporary issues relevant to Japan and East Asia. The focus of the lectures is on the national security of Japan, but it is not limited to military issues. The instructor encourages the students to understand the importance of a holistic approach.
目標
The goals of this course are for the students: a) to understand both practitioners' view and academic view on the subject; b) to understand contemporary issues in the historical context; and c) to discuss their own views and ideas on the subject in a logical way.
授業外の学習
Preparation: Approximately 150 minutes for each session - Read at least one article in the reading list, which is going to be provided later. - Check relevant news reports and articles. Review: Approximately 40 minutes for each session - Review the content of the lecture. - Post a reaction paper on Moodle.

教科書
