Evaluation will be based on active class participation, weekly homework assignments, attendance, reaction papers, and a cultural research project. There will be no formal examinations, but there will be a final paper and presentation at the end of the term.

概要

Students will be able to study academic subjects in a structured way at an undergraduate level. A CLIL approach will be employed so that students can learn the basic knowledge of the subject and the specialist language used in the subject in English. この科目群では,アカデミックな科目を体系的に英語で学びます。内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)を用い,科目の基本的な内容やその分野で使用される専門用語,学問分野を英語で身につける方法について学びます。 On this course, you will learn about Japan through the subject of Tourism. You will be able to widen your horizons and analyze and discuss aspects of Tourism in Japan in English. You will also be able to become proficient in explaining about Japan from a perspective of Tourism. このコースは観光の面から日本について学びます。英語で日本の観光について学ぶことで,視野を広げ,日本の観光について英語でも説明できるようになるための入門コースです。 In this course, you will learn about Japan through the subject of tourism. You will be able to analyze and discuss tourism in Japan and aspects of Japanese culture in English. You will also become proficient in explaining about Japanese culture, traditions, and society from the perspective of tourism and will gain skills for interacting with people from other cultures. We’ll discuss various aspects of tourism and culture in Japan in depth. You will have individual cultural research projects in your specific area of interest and will give presentations about your research. This course will prepare you well for situations where you are required to discuss or write about Japanese culture especially with a non-Japanese audience in mind.

目標

The main course objectives are to gain a deeper understanding of topics related to Japanese culture and tourism, improve intercultural communication skills, and develop greater confidence when interpreting and describing aspects of Japanese culture. Students will be expected to develop their discussion, research, and presentation skills as well as general academic skills.

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 There will be weekly reading assignments on Japanese cultural topics as well as regular ongoing research required for the research project.
