概要

Students will be able to study academic subjects in a structured way at an undergraduate level. A CLIL approach will be employed so that students can learn the basic knowledge of the subject and the specialist language used in the subject in English. この科目群では,アカデミックな科目を体系的に英語で学びます。内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)を用い,科目の基本的な内容やその分野で使用される専門用語,学問分野を英語で身につける方法について学びます。 On this course, you will learn about Japan through the subject of Literature. You will be able to widen your horizons and analyse and discuss aspects of Japanese Literature in English. You will also be able to become proficient in explaining about Japan from a literary perspective. このコースは文学を通して日本について学びます。英語で日本の文学を学ぶことで,視野を広げ,日本文学について英語でも説明できるようになるための入門コースです。 We have much information written in Japanese about Shakespeare. On the contrary, only a few materials in English about Japanese traditional performing arts including Kabuki are available. As our society is getting more and more globalised, we need to send information on Japanese culture to the world as well as accepting a variety of cultures. Many of you may not have seen a Kabuki play, despite having lived in Japan for a long time. You may have thought that Kabuki was too old for modern people to understand. Although it is supported by a long tradition, Kabuki is still a very attractive theatrical art, incorporating various contemporary elements, such as manga. On this course, you learn about Kabuki, think critically about it, and consider how you can convey Kabuki’s attractiveness to the world. You are also required to watch at least one act of Kabuki play and write a short essay about it. We also look at Bunraku puppet theatre and Noh/Kyogen briefly, on which many famous Kabuki plays are based. 日本語で書かれたシェイクスピア関連の情報は多くあります。一方,歌舞伎を含む日本の伝統芸能について書かれた英語の資料はあまりありません。我々の社会がますますグローバル化していくなか,多様な文化を受容すると同時に,日本の文化に関する情報を世界に対して発する必要もあるのではないでしょうか。 多くの人は,日本に長く住んでいるにも関わらず歌舞伎を見たことがないかもしれません。歌舞伎は現代人にとって古すぎると思っていた人も少なくないでしょう。長い伝統に支えられているとはいえ,歌舞伎は,今でも魅力的な舞台芸術で,マンガなどの今日的な要素をも取り込んでいるのです。 この授業では,歌舞伎について学び,歌舞伎について批評的に考察し,またいかに歌舞伎の魅力を世界に伝えるか考えます。歌舞伎上演を少なくとも一幕は鑑賞し,それについてレポートを書きます。 授業では,文楽と能楽についても触れます。多くの歌舞伎演目が,これらの伝統芸能を基にしているからです。

目標

You will improve your English skills by reading related materials in English and exchanging opinions in English with your peers. By critically thinking about Kabuki from various perspectives, you will acquire the skills for thinking necessary to study your own academic field. You will also be able to explain Kabuki in English. You will have an opinion about theatre in general by comparing Kabuki with Shakespeare’s plays, Japanese modern plays and so on. 英文の資料の読み込みやディスカッションを通じて英語のスキルを向上させることはもとより,様々な視点から歌舞伎を批評的に考察することにより,自分の専門について学ぶ際にも必要な考察のスキルを身に付けます。歌舞伎を英語で説明できるようにします。シェイクスピアや日本の現代劇と比較することによって,演劇全般について自分の意見を持てるようにします。

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 (1) Read materials beforehand, so that you can actively participate in class.(120 minutes) (2) Review what you have learnt in class. (50 minutes) (3) Write an essay about a live performance of Kabuki play you actually see during the semester. (20 minutes) (1) 毎回事前に資料を読むこと。(120分) (2) 授業後は学んだ内容を整理すること。(50分) (3) 歌舞伎を鑑賞し,レポートを書くこと。(20分)
