Drawing on some topics or cases related to environmental issues, this introductory course provides an accessible and engaging introduction to this field of study. このコースは環境問題を解決する様々なアプローチについて学び,関連トピックをわかりやすい英語で紹介する入門コースです。 This course will start by studying the rain forest ecosystem as a springboard to focus on the impact of human activity -- and resulting loss of biodiversity -- on animal life. Through readings and film, we will focus on the issue of endangered animals, as well as the environmental impact and ethical issues arising from using animals as a source of food. We may also focus on human use of non-human animals as entertainment, companions, and scientific subjects. Active learning is a central feature of this course, experienced through discussions, pair/group work, presentations, and reflection papers. As a result of these activities, critical thinking skills will also be cultivated.
