概要
On this course, you will be able to study academic subjects in a structured way at an undergraduate level. A CLIL approach will be employed so that you can learn the basic knowledge of the subject and the specialist language used in the subject in English. Critical Thinking will be employed to develop academic knowledge in concepts, theories and research in the area of these subjects. Plenty of language support will be given in learning how to express issues and notions introduced in class. この科目群では,アカデミックな科目を体系的に英語で学びます。内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)を用い,科目の基本的な内容やその分野で使用される専門用語,学問分野を英語で身につける方法について学びます。この科目群では,それぞれの分野の概念,理論,調査法に関する学問的な知識を育むためのタスクにおいて,批評的思考(Critical Thinking)を使います。授業で用いられる論点や概念をどう言い表すかを学ぶにあたって,英語については多くの学習支援があります。 On this course, you will learn about how Cross-cultural Communications is defined as an academic area of study. Drawing on some topics related to Cross-cultural Communications, this introductory course provides an accessible and engaging introduction to the subject. このコースは異文化コミュニケーションとは何かを学問的に定義し,関連トピックをわかりやすい英語で紹介する入門コースです。 This course will look at cross-cultural communication by looking at music of cultures around the world. By studying music of cultures around the world we can learn many things about the culture. What instruments are common there? What can we learn from its popular music? How is religion and spiritual life expressed in music? What does its music tell us about its values, religion, education, community, and much more. In order to do this we will learn the basics of music and learn how to listen to music with analytical ears. We will examine different aspects of music such as rhythm, pitch, instruments etc. and see how they behave in different musical cultures around the globe. Music we study includes traditional, classical, contemporary, religious, popular and all genres of music. Students will be assigned reading as well as musical examples to read and listed to each week. In class, we will listen to musical performances from around the world and discuss and anlyze the music and its cultural context in-depth, based on the materials students read. Eventually, students will introduce to the class a musical piece or excerpt of their choice and explain its cultural context as well as some of the musical elements. This will the most significant project of the class.
目標
The goal of this course is to introduce universal musical concepts and explore musical cultures around the world. Course objectives are divided in three parts: Intro: You will learn about basic ideas about music and people who are involved in it. Elements of music: This is the majority of the course. You will be introduced to basic musical elements (instruments, pitch, rhythm etc.) and how they are manifested in music the world. You will increase your knowledge and vocabulary connected to music. Student presentations: Each student will present a musical excerpt from somewhere in the world and explain the cultural context, musical and performance elements. You make a presentation and show your abilityh to analyze music and its culture. Additionallly, you will be able to speak and have discussions in English about music and musical cultures. You will learn terms and concepts useful for music and gain basic knowledge in music. You will have opportunity to do extensive research project and present it to the class. You will write about a musical performance you attended.

Outside Class Work includes: - Reading about elements of music and musical culttures and the people who make music. - Listening and analyzing musical examples. - Reviewing and looking up vocabulary and terms before class. - Research and prepare prasentation - Attend a live music performance of any kind and write a 3/4-page report about it
