Evaluation will be based on active class participation, weekly homework assignments, regular attendance, reaction papers, and an ongoing country research project. There will be no formal examinations, but there will be a final research project paper and presentations at the end of the term.

概要
Students will be able to study academic subjects in a structured way at an undergraduate level. A CLIL approach will be employed so that students can learn the basic knowledge of the subject and the specialist language used in the subject in English. この科目群では,アカデミックな科目を体系的に英語で学びます。内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)を用い,科目の基本的な内容やその分野で使用される専門用語,学問分野を英語で身につける方法について学びます。 On this course, you will learn about how Cross-cultural Communications is defined as an academic area of study. Drawing on some topics related to Cross-cultural Communications, this introductory course provides an accessible and engaging introduction to the subject. このコースは異文化コミュニケーションとは何かを学問的に定義し,関連トピックをわかりやすい英語で紹介する入門コースです。 The focus of this course will be on topics in intercultural communication and issues of cultural identity. Students enrolling in this course should have a strong interest in other cultures and if possible, previous experience living, studying, or traveling abroad. This course will focus on intercultural theory, a comparative cultural analysis of Japan and other countries, and a look into the deeper aspects of various cultures around the world through an ongoing country research project. There will be weekly reading assignments and students are expected to come to class fully prepared to actively participate in pair and group discussions. This course will focus on discussion, reading, and critical thinking skills. Students enrolling in this course should be confident of their ability to do academic work in English.
目標
The main course objectives are to have a deeper understanding of intercultural communication theory, improve intercultural communication skills, develop greater confidence when interacting across cultures, and discuss and analyze a variety of cultural topics. Developing greater curiosity about other cultures as well as greater cultural self-awareness are important aspects of the course. Students will be expected to develop their research and presentation skills as well as general academic skills.
授業外の学習
Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 There will be weekly reading assignments on cultural topics and current events as well as regular ongoing research required for the research project.
