概要
Students will be able to study academic subjects in a structured way at an undergraduate level. A CLIL approach will be employed so that students can learn the basic knowledge of the subject and the specialist language used in the subject in English. この科目群では,アカデミックな科目を体系的に英語で学びます。内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)を用い,科目の基本的な内容やその分野で使用される専門用語,学問分野を英語で身につける方法について学びます。 On this course, you will learn about how culture is defined as an academic subject. Drawing on some topics related to cultures, this introductory course provides an accessible and engaging introduction to the study of cultures in different contexts. このコースは文化とは何かを学問的に定義し,関連トピックをわかりやすい英語で紹介する入門コースです。 Britannica Encyclopedia defines cultural studies, as an “interdisciplinary field concerned with the role of social institutions in the shaping of culture.” This CLIL class focuses on part of what is defined there. Students will explore contemporary issues of different regions in terms of struggles for peace, from the perspective of culture. That is because we, as world citizens, must learn about such issues and consider how we can deal with them so that people manage to peacefully coexist in the globalized world. In fact, students will learn about 1) contemporary issues related to peace (i.e. education and gender, global warming, and poverty and hunger) to be solved 2) the impact of wars (i.e. atomic weapons, and refugees), and 3) individuals and institutions that work to bring about peace. Indeed, in this world, what happens in one area of the world affects countries across the world. Students will discuss and make presentations as active learning activities. As this course takes a CLIL approach, cooperative learning (group work and pair work) is employed and students can improve their English, and academic and cognitive skills as they learn about culture with a focus on global issues. Students are expected to gain knowledge and skills to be world citizens in this globalized world.
