概要

This course explores the history and experiences of various migrants to/from the United States. We will survey key figures, events, and concepts which have characterized American migration history from the colonial period to the present. This course also introduces students to some foundational texts, visuals, and narratives to historicize contemporary debates on migration control in the United States. This year we will focus on the experience of African Americans and Japanese Americans.

目標

Through this course, students will acquire skills to: 1) analyze American migration from the historical point of view, 2) understand the historical roots of global migration, and 3) develop skills to examine primary sources and secondary materials.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to read assigned materials prior to each session (100 mins). They are also expected to reflect lecture materials after each session (90 mins). (Total 190 mins)
