概要

This course provides an intermediate-to-advanced level interpreting skill training (E-J and J-E). The course will primarily focus on: intermediate-to-advanced level long consecutive interpreting & note-taking, dialogue interpreting requiring complex judgments employing pragmatics and speech act theory, sight-translation employing the concept of chunking and First-In First-Out translation, voice-over interpreting with advance preparation, and introductory-to-intermediate level simultaneous interpreting. 中級から上級レベルの「日英・英日」の通訳実践訓練を行う。中上級レベルの長い発話の逐次通訳とメモ取り,込み入った語用論的分析を要する対話の通訳,サイト・トランスレーションとチャンキング及び順送り訳出の演習,ボイスオバー(吹替)同時通訳,及び初中級レベルの同時通訳の演習が中心となる。 The Course Moodle (Title: Interpreting Workshop) will function as a base for all the course materials, activities, and assignments. 授業は,教材や課題提出を含め全てコースMoodle (科目名: Interpreting Workshop)に掲載された内容に基づいて進めます。

目標

The objectives of this course are: 1) To further improve one’s consecutive interpreting skill and subskills: a) Note-taking skill for long-consecutive interpreting for speeches and interviews; b) Dialogue interpreting skill requiring pragmatic discourse-related judgments c) Overall delivery (voice, pitch/intonation, pace/speed, pronunciation/enunciation, elimination of fillers, etc.) and appropriate language register and level of formality in both languages for professional performance in public 2) To further improve one's skills for First-in First-Out translation between Japanese and English for intermediate-level sight translation and elementary-level simultaneous interpreting 以下をこの授業の目的とする。 1) 逐次通訳技能,及び以下の関連スキルの更なる向上を目指す。 a) スピーチ等での長い１節やインタビューでの長い発言の逐次通訳をこなしていくための「メモとり」技術の更なる研鑽 b) 慣用表現や訳しにくい表現の多い対話の通訳に必要な異言語間の語用論的分析能力の更なる向上 c) 公の場でプロとして通用する話し方(声の出し方,抑揚やイントネーション,話す速度,発音・滑舌,言いよどみの克服,等),及び両言語における適切な敬語・レジスターの運用能力 2) 日英間双方向における「順送り訳出」技能のさらなる向上を目指し,中級難易度レベルのサイト・トランスレーション及び入門レベルの同時通訳をこなせるようにする。 *Introduction to Interpreting C-1 (Spring 2022; Spring 2023) or Introduction to Interpreting C-2 (Fall 2022; Fall 2023) is a pre-requisite for this course. Those who did not take at least one of these courses must obtain a permission to register from the instructor. *当コースを履修するためには,Introduction to Interpreting C-1 (Spring 2022; Spring 2023) または Introduction to Interpreting C-2 (Fall 2022; Fall 2023) のいずれかを履修済みであることが必須。そうでない場合は,担当教師に連絡し,個別に履修許可を得ること。 *All prospective enrollees are required to take the 1st Day Level-Check Test in Module 1 *履修希望者は全員 Module 1 で First Day Level-Check Test を受けること

授業外の学習

The trainees are expected to work on the following outside regular class hours: 1) Comment Sheet submission after every Module 2) Preparation for vocabulary quizzes (fields: politics, international relations, law, economics, finance, business, management, environment, agriculture, food, technology, IT, medical science, healthcare, etc.) 3) Speech Interpreting Assignments (E-J & J-E) 4) Dialogue Interpreting Assignments (J-E) 5) Preparation for PowerPoint Presentation (in English) and Consecutive Interpreting (into Japanese) on Conference Interpreting topics. 6) Preparation for Mid-Term Interpreting Performance Examination (E-J & J-E) 7) Preparation for Final Interpreting Performance Examination (E-J & J-E) 授業時間外で必要となる学習内容 1) 毎授業後のコメントシート提出 2) 単語のテスト(政治・国際関係・法律・経済・金融・ビジネス・経営・環境問題・農業・食品・テクノロジー・IT・医学・医療,等の分野)の準備 3) スピーチ通訳実技録音の提出 (英日及び日英) 4) 対話通訳課題 (日英) 5) 会議通訳関連トピックに関する英語でのパワーポイント発表及び逐次通訳 6) 通訳実技中間試験 (英日及び日英) 7) 通訳実技期末試験 (英日及び日英)
