概要

This course introduces students to some of the skills, knowledge, and strategies that aid in preparing for, adjusting to, and making the most of the experience of studying abroad. The class will use active learning methods, including class debates, reaction papers, and individual or group presentations, to provide opportunities to practice and improve those critical thinking and discussion abilities valuable for international students based at foreign universities (with a focus on the integrated development of writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills). The material this quarter will cover various practical skills, self-management methods, and study techniques relevant to study abroad contexts.

目標

1. To introduce students to practical knowledge and skills valuable in study abroad contexts. 2. To assist students in developing a deeper understanding of and self-reflective attitude towards effective time-management and self-study methods in preparation for study abroad. 3. To provide students with opportunities to practice and improve their critical thinking, writing, and discussion skills (with a focus on strategies for effective classroom participation during study abroad). 4. To provide students with a framework for understanding the different aspects of the study abroad experience, including guidance on adjusting to life as a foreign student.

授業外の学習

General Overview -> Complete the readings and discussion activities assigned for each class. Review the relevant course material each week and prepare for class debates, group discussion, and presentations. Complete homework assignments, including reaction papers, Moodle forum tasks, and critical or reflective writing exercises (further details will be provided by the instructor). Detailed Instructions -> The weekly class preparation and review activities described above should be structured as follows: 1. Class Preparation: Complete the readings and discussion preview activities assigned for each class (based on worksheet instructions; approx. 120 minutes per session). 2. Class Review and Homework: Complete homework assignments, including critical and reflective writing exercises (reaction papers), independent research and self-review related to the class topics, and Moodle forum discussion tasks (based on Moodle instructions; approx. 70 minutes per session, with 45 minutes for homework tasks and 25 minutes for review tasks). Where necessary, further details will be provided by the instructor.
