概要
This course is an introduction to the study of language, with a particular emphasis on the analysis of the English language. We will focus on the following aspects of language this semester: basic ideas about language, phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax. There will be lectures and many discussions on various topics in linguistics throughout the course.
目標
The primary goal of the course is to bring you to reflect critically on language which is usually taken for granted by its native speakers, but which poses great challenges to those who try to learn it as a second/foreign language.

Students will have to: (1) read the assigned reading before and/or after the class (they can decide the timing depending on their needs and wants); and (2) review the class contents to consolidate their learning.
