概要

This course is designed for prospective English teachers who plan to teach English in Japan. In this course, we will learn various teaching approaches and their advantages as well as disadvantages through reading and discussions in class. We will also learn how to plan a lesson using authorized textbooks and will practice teaching a short lesson (microteaching). All the reading and preparation must be completed before each class so that all of us actively participate in discussions and other tasks in class.

目標

Students will be able to: 1. gain theoretical knowledge about various teaching approaches, 2. consider practical issues when planning and conducting a lesson, 3. develop activities using authorized textbook(s), and 4. plan pedagogically sound lessons.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to complete all the assignments, including reading and preparing for class discussions before each class and learning further and writing reaction papers after each class. 【Preparation for class】(Time required: approx. 100 minutes) Reading the relevant chapter(s) Prepare ideas for class discussion Finding and developing materials for teaching 【Review】(Time required: approx. 100 minutes) Reading recommended articles for further understanding Critically reading classmates' lesson plans Writing a reaction paper
