概要

The American poet Robert Frost said “No surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader.” Building on the work done in Creative Writing 1, we will turn our attention towards the narrative non-fiction essay and the short story. For our fiction work, we will look at issues of Narrative Surprise, Narrative Event and Narrative Conflict. We will also explore and discuss the and elements of the Quest Story. For our narrative no-fiction work, we will write essays that explore ideas and objects vanishing from our modern world and examine early life experiences. We will study the writer’s use of inventory and vivid language to deliver to the reader an experience that is easy to imagine. For all of our stories and essay we will read the work of many different writers to discover models and techniques to help with each assignment. Twice during the semester we will set up peer workshops where you will share your writing with other classmates to help improve each other’s work.
