AMERICAN STUDIES 2

概要

This course examines the key concepts of American culture and society by reading and discussing the excerpts from the autobiographies of selected American women who contributed to the making of American history. Presentation and active participation in class discussions are expected. Each lecture will consist of instructor's lecture, student presentations (basically 2 students per class), and group discussions. Reading guideline and what is expected for reading responses, class responses, peer responses and the final exam will be explained during the first day of class. Students will sign up for class presentations right after the first day of class. So please do not miss the first class. アメリカ合衆国の文化や社会に歴史的な足跡を残した女性の自叙伝や伝記の抜粋を読みます。授業の目的と方法は春学期のアメリカ研究と同じです。毎回学生有志によるプレゼンとクラスディスカッションを行います。 春学期同様,教員が提供するレジュメと講義,有志学生によるプレゼン(レジュメ１枚またはPPスライド,一回原則２名まで),ディスカッションとQ&Aで授業を行います。課題文献はすべてムードル上に提供します。課題文献(★のあるもの)については,Reading Questionに沿ってリアクション(短い１パラグラフ)をムードルのフォーラムに投稿すること。授業前にアップロードしたものについては加点します。初回授業で詳しく話しますが,授業前にアップロードした結果,授業後にもリアクションをアップしている場合,また学生プレゼンにもリアクションをアップした回数に応じて加点します。プレゼン言語は英語でも日本語でも可です。リアクションと期末試験等,提出物は全て英語で書きましょう。

目標

1. polishing critical reading and discussion skills 2. acquiring basic knowledge on the formation of American values through historical perspectives 毎週,人物の自叙伝の抜粋を読むことを通して,英文の速読力を伸ばし,北米地域研究の基礎となるアメリカ合衆国の価値観やその変遷の基礎知識を修得する。

授業外の学習

Students are required to write a one-paragraph response to the reading question posted on the moodle before attending the class. Student presenters will be decided on a first-come first-serve basis after the first class. 春学期のAmerican Studies 1と同様,予習として課題文献の速読,moodle投稿(100分),および復習を行うこと(90分)。復習の際には,講義を復習し,プレゼンへのレスポンスを投稿し,改めて課題文献を読むための論点を考え,歴史的文脈に位置付けて分析を深める。
