ENGLISH COMPOSITION B-2【Gｸﾞﾙ-ﾌﾟ】

概要

This course aims to develop your basic writing skills for an academic essay. Continuing the spring semester, we will start with the basic structure of a short essay. A bit more data science (to create and explain graphs and tables) will be introduced. We will also cover the basics of the APA, IEEE, and other styles. Topics of the final essay can be anything but must be based on real data. We will sometimes read short materials in various fields to stimulate your academic expedition to search for the topic. When the topic is set and the outline and the core data of the essay are done, we will have presentation sessions for peer reviewing (15% of the grade, though it's a COMPOSITION class). Active class participation is a must. Students have to post a comment at least once on the course website in each class (15% of the grade). Just sitting there means nothing. The final essay (about 1500 words) must be turned in at least twice (draft and final: 70% of the grade).

目標

This course is intended to develop the following 4 skills: 1. To write a coherent and well-organized essay. 2. To use the APA style for citations and references. 3. To create effective graphs, diagrams or tables to show the data. 4. To review and revise drafts.

Students are expected to prepare for each class doing various exercises for styles, writing drafts, and reviewing/revising drafts.
