概要

Building on the work from Composition A-1 we will turn our focus towards the principles of writing essays with a research component. We will further practice academic writing techniques, such as writing clear thesis statements, topic sentences, as well as, quoting, summarizing, paraphrasing, and properly using in-text citations. We will spend time concentrating on the writer’s search for credibility and discuss how the writer identifies and chooses appropriate sources and then uses those sources properly in their essays. In order to generate writing ideas, during the semester we will examine and discuss 5 Case Studies that deal with contemporary issues ranging from gender issues to discrimination to cyber bullying. Students will be asked to use the case studies as a platform to work towards our ultimate goal of writing a 1000+ word essay that has a clear thesis statement which is supported in all body paragraphs by credible research/evidence/examples/analysis. * Students wishing to retake this course are required to email the instructor before the first class.
