概要

This English Composition class will introduce you to the basics of essay-writing in English. Beginning with the basics of sentence and paragraph structure, we will gradually move on to look at more advanced techniques of argumentation and use of supporting evidence. The eventual goal will be the production of an essay (at least 1,000 words). In the second half of the semester, we will hold several writing workshops, along with opportunities for one-on-one feedback from the instructor. There is no set textbook: class materials will be distributed on Slack in advance. There will be a final written examination. * Students wishing to retake this course are required to email the instructor before the first class.

目標

1. To improve your ability to write an academic essay in English. 2. To improve the accuracy and sophistication of your written English. 3. To improve your ability to reflect critically on your own drafting and writing process, to learn from feedback, and to offer useful feedback to other students.

授業外の学習

1. Reading the set text for each week. 2. Producing short writing exercises (at the beginning, 1-2 paragraphs, but longer towards the end of the semester). 3. Reviewing notes from previous lessons and preparing for tests and group activities.
