概要
Welcome to Sophia! This class for first-year students will introduce you to the culture, history, and current political issues of the United Kingdom. It will also help you develop your written English and academic skills. We focus on post-war British culture (1945 - present), from the perspective of class, race, and gender. Texts will include newspaper articles, NGO reports, short essays, plays, and films (such as "Gosford Park" and "I, Daniel Blake"). The course will be taught online, using a combination of Zoom, Slack, and Moodle. See my website for more details on teaching methods. Classes will be focused on active learning, including group-work, live video discussion, and online quizzes. There will be a final essay. * Students wishing to retake this course are required to email the instructor before the first class.
目標
1. To improve your general knowledge of the United Kingdom, including its geography, political system, population, and culture. 2.
