概要

This course aims to provide students with a critical and interactive introduction to the organizational theory and analysis. To acquire a deeper understanding of management, one that can also be used for practical analyses of complex contemporary business issues, it is essential to learn about the organization theory foundations and main debates. Accordingly, this course will start with classic topics, such as the emergence and growth of modern corporation, and the evolution of the organization of work and workers. The middle part of the course will focus on the internal processes of organizations, covering issues such as the role of managers, team dynamics, power relations, and diversity. The final part of the course will consider organizations in context, including how various organizations influence each other, and the impacts of technological changes. The course will require active participation from students, especially reading, analysing, and discussing various types of assigned texts (classic readings, recent academic research, book chapters, management press, etc.). Also, each student will work on an individual final paper where they will engage with a problem question related to organizational theory and analysis, and will need to present and justify their stance about a management issue using the knowledge from the course and additional independent research. As a preparation for writing the final paper, students will engage in exercises such as group work, presentations, and individual assignments to practice analysing and answering problem questions.
