概要
Taking a critical and pluralistic approach, the goal of the course – African Economy - is to provide a thorough grasp of the key intractable dimensions of economic development across African countries. We will look at theoretical and policy-relevant discussions that are of interest to individuals who want to learn more about the African economy as well as those who want to gain a thorough understanding of economic dynamics on a global scale. The course examines the range of current economic circumstances to give students a solid understanding of the problems and viable options for African growth and investment prospects in light of the continent’s economic performance. The themes to be addressed are: Multilateralism and African growth debate; International finance, borrowing and development; Employment, poverty, and inclusive growth; Information-communication-technologies and sustainable growth; Economic inequality within African countries; Climate change and agriculture sector; and New directions for the African economy. To contextualize our learning, we will also study a selection of country-specific case studies.
