Each student is required to have a presentation on a coutry case study by comparison with Japanese education system through this course. Besides this, students are required to read assignments for every class and join a class discussion.

概要

The class of 2024 will consider the characteristics of international education by addressing the concept of "Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)" in international education from a variety of case studies.International education is a field of pedagogy that focuses on how international relations affect various events in education, or conversely, how education affects international relations, international political and economic trends, and academic and cultural exchange, and clarifies the dynamism of such relations. There are various examples of ESD in Japan and overseas. ESD raises the important points of policy, cuririculm developent, teachers and educators' role, community and Internatoinal collaboration and cooperation.It also can raise the importance of examining internationalization and transnational education in higher education, and the nature of inter/transdisciplinary education and research. This class discuss those points. Besides the lectures and discussions, this class introduce Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) practice in cooperation with Boston College.

目標

1. Understand the historical background and roles of comparative and international education focusing on International Education and Japanese Education System. 2. Learn how to collect data and analyze the existent issues and changes. 3. Compare and discuss each student’s perspective on research on international education In this lecture, we will analyze the characteristics of international education by comparing international trends with the development of Japan's international education policies and programs, with the aim of acquiring knowledge about international pedagogy and developing critical thinking skills and multiple perspectives through a comparative perspective. In addition, the lectures will provide opportunities for individual and group presentations of research by participating students to foster their ability to express and present themselves, and to help form an academic platform based on Japanese graduate schools by allowing students from different cultural backgrounds to interact and learn from each other.

1.Students are required to read the assigned readings in advance and clarifying questions and comments for a class discussion. (70minutes) 2. Preparation for a presentation of case study on international education (60 minutes) 3.Collecting examples of ESD practices (60minutes)
