BACHELOR'S THESIS (AREA STUDIES) 1

概要

A "Bachelor’s Thesis" provides students with the knowledge and skills to search for facts, collect necessary materials, plan a research project, scientific work, and will submit a paper as an academic work. A "Project" provides the same as above but will submit a product as an academic work. Students can choose either one of the “Bachelor’s Thesis” or “Project” . Students who select Bachelor’s Thesis should submit an approximately 6,000-word paper by the end of the final year of study. Students who select Project should submit a product with a high-level intellectual commitment equal to a thesis writing (e.g., making a documentary). In both Bachelor’s Thesis 1 and Project 1 (i.e., in the first semester of the year), students conduct research, share research progress with their advisor, and receive instruction at each stage: from deciding a topic, submitting a "Title Registration Form" (60-120 words), collecting and analyzing data to submission of a "Research Plan" (600 words). Students refer to "Thesis Writing Guideline for FGS (SPSF)" on how to write a thesis. Also, students must read the bulletin of information on the detailed process from the registration of this course to the submission of the outcome. If students choose Project, they need to submit a research summary in a designated format and receive advice from their supervisor.

目標

Students should select a topic based on their own research interest and acquire the ability to conduct advanced analysis and consideration with the research methods in international relations and area studies through independent investigation, thesis writing, and oral presentations. In the Bachelor’s Thesis and Project 1, students are expected to acquire the ability to choose a clear topic as well as the ability to conduct independent research such as literature searches, literature reading, and data collection. Students submit a research plan for thesis as the final product.

授業外の学習

Students should receive guidance from their supervisor in order to decide their topics. They report to the supervisor regularly as they collect and review literature and data. After submitting the research plan as a final product, follow-up guidance should be received from the supervisor.
