ADVANCED STUDIES (INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION B)

概要

In this course, we will study various roles and practices of international organizations, with an emphasis on international development and cooperation. The course begins with an introduction to key concepts of development and roles of various actors such as states, national development agencies, international financial institutions, United Nations, private sectors, and civil societies. Later, we review and discuss about the UN report, international statistics, and Sustainable Development Goals together to encourage students to think critically about the challenges from various perspectives to consider how international actions affect diverse populations worldwide. Discussions will be held in every class. The course contents and schedule are subject to change depending on students’ areas of interest. Guest speakers might be invited.

Students are expected to be able to: 1) Understand the key theories and concepts of international cooperation and international development. 2) Develop students' ability to critically analyze cases of international cooperation and international development. 3) Share own ideas and discuss with others who have different thoughts. 4) Organize the complex information and output them the audiences.

授業外の学習

A total of 190 minutes of review and preparation outside of class time is recommended: 100 minutes to go over class materials and explore topics further based on personal interests, and 90 minutes to get ready for the next class. Students must read the assigned materials and upload their comments or questions before class. Submissions should not exceed 150 words. Breakout groups will be formed in each class to facilitate the sharing of insights and experiences among classmates. Students are also required to make a 20-minute individual/ pair presentation. Further details will be provided in Week 7, on November 13th.
