概要
When you studied world history in high school, did you ever find the names of wars and events hard to remember in detail, or the history of Southeast Asia or Africa difficult to understand? This is largely due to the fact that “world history” was a collection of single-country histories of various countries. Global history is a new way of looking at history that focuses on “connections” and their interrelationships. By learning in this way, you will have a magical experience of making history seem more grandiose and yet familiar to you. In addition, global history has utilized previous research and formulated new questions. Through learning this concept, let us create our own new “questions” and value the attitude of pursuing them. This class is organized into two major parts. The first half of the course, through the 8th session, will focus on the birth, development, and current status of the field of global history, organizing content from representative studies in the field. In the second half of the course, starting with the 9th session, we will focus on “war,” which is the clearest link between the national and the global. By rethinking “war” from the global history perspective, we break away from the idea of distinguishing "ourselves" from "others" and promote awareness of ourselves as “global citizens” based on the spirit of “with others, for others.” History is the crystallization of people’s actions. I will engage you all to change your consciousness to realize the relationship between your daily life and world events and to see history as “your own affair.” ※The possibility of group work exists in this class. However, factors such as the number and grade of students will be considered when determining whether and in what format such activities will take place. Further details will be provided in the class video.
