PEACE RESEARCH

概要

(1) What is peace? How could people create peaceful conditions? What is violence? Why people suffer from violence? Course participants will consider these questions based on lectures. (2) Peace is multifaceted. It is complicated to build peace. In order to understand the complexity, students will learn from lectures and discuss in class. (3) After the series of lectures and in-class discussions, students will create groups, conduct a case study, and present the research outcome in class. The audience will give comments and questions so that presenters can use the feedback when they write a final report.

目標

By the end of the course, students will be able - to explain different aspects of peace based on academic research, - to discuss efforts and challenges of peacemaking and peacebuilding in reality, and - to exchange constructive opinions with classmates.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to read materials in advance (90 min). Students review lecture contents and study further to write final reports (60 min). Students conduct research and prepare for group presentations outside of class (90 min).
