SOCIETY AND POLITICS IN SOUTH ASIA

概要

Society and Politics of South Asia (subcontinent of India and its neighbors) is an important subject for study and better understanding, as this subcontinent with a population of one fifth of the world, with a complex diversity of religions, languages and ethnicity, has increasingly begun to play a major role in global politics and economy. This course provides students with a systematic introduction to the region of South Asia focusing on Indian but briefly introducing the SAARC nations and their socio-political context. Briefly historical, generally contemporary and specifically socio-political issues will be examined, discussed and analyzed.

目標

The objectives of this course for the student is to be more aware of the importance of the subcontinent, knowledgeable enough to be engaged in socio-political development of the region and to become efficient leaders from Japan to contribute in different ways to global efforts to make a better world. Final objective is to give deeper understanding and ability to speak about South Asian Political and Social situations.

授業外の学習

Students’ are required to come prepared reading the materials to be used in the class, which requires at least one hour reading regularly. Also it is required to prepare for presentation and discussion on each country selected. materials will be distributed and introduced for the requirements. social exposure also is encouraged to understand the South Asian region by meeting people from South Asia.
