BASICS OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION B

概要

This course is an introduction to the study of international cooperation by understanding different areas/ issues and examining practical case studies (most from Asia and especially from Pakistan) The course is designed to understand 1) complexity of international cooperation and multiple interventions by various stakeholders, and 2) global issues such as human security, social inclusion, education, food, health and nutrition, youth development, and governance. The introduction of international cooperation practice is also demonstrated (e.g. interview with experts/ practitioners , needs assessment practice) The students in this course will need to prepare for the group work by reading materials and watching videos prior to each class. The group discussion will focus on issues and challenges in current international cooperation and possible solutions through coordination and operation among different stakeholders. Some case studies and actual interview also will be used in group works. Based on the interests of group members, the group will make a final presentation about one or more global issues and possible international cooperation.

The students will be able to 1. acquire basic knowledge on international cooperation and sustainable development, theories of development, global issues, and international initiatives 2. develop their discussion and presentation skills in negotiating situations. 3. acquire basic skills on communication and problem-solving for development workers

授業外の学習

Assignments with reading materials including videos will be announced at each class. The discussions in class will be based on the contents of these assignments and presentations. The group work will require about 60-min preparation out of class. After the asynchronous(on demand) class, the reaction papers will be required. All materials will be in English.
