詳細情報
概要
This is an introductory course of area studies, one of the mainstreams along with international relations in the Faculty of Global Studies. The name of area studies might be unfamiliar, but this is an interdisciplinary approach to comprehensively understand the various areas of the world from various specialized fields such as history, anthropology, politics, and economics. This course introduces the history and methodology of area studies, and then introduces the characteristics and issues of research in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Japan. All classes are conducted asynchronous classes only. Moodle will be used for providing the link to video lectures, teaching materials, and submitting assignments, so be sure to complete the course registration with Moodle before taking classes (Moodle registration should be made only after you finished Loyola registration). Since it is not linked with course registration, it is necessary to register separately by yourself.
目標
To provide the basics of area studies, the course helps students to understand the regional characteristics of various areas in the world and the relationship between the environment and human activities that make up these characteristics. Furthermore, we aim to comprehensively grasp the ideals of global society in an era of globalization, in which the mutual relationships between areas are becoming increasingly closer.
授業外の学習
Since the course is based on pre-knowledge of world history and geography at the high school graduation level, students who have difficulty understanding in class need to learn basic knowledge using reference books as appropriate. No other special preparation is required. However, if you review the classwork and feel that you do not have enough understanding, or if you have more interest, it is recommended that you read and study the references given during the class. Generally, 190 minutes of work outside of class is expected for each class, around 45 hours in total.
所要時間: At least 190 minutes per lecture
