INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL STUDIES

概要

This course is an introduction to Global Studies. Global Studies is a new integrated discipline to explore the globalization of world in present day. It provides a broad understanding and practical knowledge of global issues for students by interconnecting two points of view, global in context of International Relations and local in context of Area Studies. To cover the extensive and integrated scope of Global Studies, the Faculty members teach the course from different disciplines: area studies, anthropology, history, politics, international relations, economics, and sociology, and as well focus on number of important issues: gender, media, and civil society in a global context.

目標

This course aims to introduce concepts, ideas, methodology of Global Studies, and how it relates to adjacent disciplines. It cultivates students’ capacity to understand global society, exploring with following research tools: statistics, field-research, interview, and investigation of historical materials. Students will learn understand the importance and methods of acquiring local language, and the concepts of morals, intellectual property rights, and portrait rights as related to global society. Risk management education is also provided (for political instability, public security, infectious diseases etc.).
