GENDER AND MIGRATION

概要

This course explores the gendered dynamics of migration and immigrant integration. Taking an intersectional approach, this course examines how gender and various other social categories shape the migration and integration process. Key theories will be reviewed and relevant issues in international migration, such as citizenship, cross-border marriages, and labor migration, will be explored in depth. Comparisons between established immigrant societies in North America and emerging recipient and sending countries in Asia will be made, as well as among countries in East Asia, to deepen our understanding.

目標

By the end of the semester, students in the course should have a firm grasp on the issues and debates surrounding gender and migration. They will be able to develop a group project which incorporates but also goes beyond the class materials.

I will strive to make the class interactive and you must be involved on a regular basis. My role is to provide you with resources and to assist you in gaining new perspectives and knowledge on gender and migration, but ultimately it is your duty to learn. To this end, I suggest that you come to every class prepared (having completed all the assigned readings) and willing to contribute to our class learning environment.
