概要

This course will provide training in the theory and practice of qualitative research with special emphasis on interviews and coding analysis. The course is driven by the understanding that qualitative research requires a scientific method, such as specific tools, theoretical grounding, and rigorous criteria in its applications. You must have completed at least one 200-level Anthropology-Sociology course prior to taking this course. If you do not meet the prerequisite, you should withdraw from the course. If you do not, you may fail the course.

目標

Students will be able to understand and execute all phases of qualitative inquiry, from research design to data collection and analysis.

You need to finish assigned readings and write response memos before coming to classes, and prepare to lead discussions for chosen weeks. You are also required to carry out qualitative group research as part of this course.
