概要

The ideal of a liberal arts education is not simply to acquire practical skills to make a living, but rather to investigate what it means to live well. This course approaches the question of "living well" or "the good life" from philosophical and sociological perspectives. We start with basic philosophical definitions of a good life. but then address these using empirical social science research. Students will keep a reflective diary throughout the course (in the form of reaction papers due on moodle). The goal of the course is not to prescribe a definition of the good life for everyone, but to give everyone a chance to investigate their own definitions from a more informed and considered perspective.
