概要

This course is designed to invite students to the study of religion as an academic discipline. The course is not a general survey of major religions of the world, but rather an examination of important themes and issues in religion from a comparative perspective. While trying to maintain their neutrality and objectivity, students are expected to develop empathetic as well as critical understanding of what we call “religion.”

目標

Students will understand breadth and depth of the field of the academic study of religion and be able to approach religion in a comprehensive as well as self-reflective, critical manner.

1) Read the assigned texts and prepare questions for class discussion (120 minutes). 2) Review the materials from class lecture/discussion and prepare for quizzes (70 minutes).
