MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS*

概要

The primary purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basics concepts of Statistics and Mathematics essential for Business and Economics-related data analyses. The course objectives are to introduce the basic concepts of: (a) mathematical functions including logarithmic functions; (b) descriptive statistics, (c) probability theory and distributions, (e) sampling distribution and confidence intervals, (f) hypothesis testing, (g) analysis of variance (ANOVA), and (h) linear regression. Students will participate actively in course activities and discussions, complete a number of assignments, take a mid-term examination and final examination, and conduct a small group data analysis project.

目標

The objectives of the course is (a) to understand basic mathematical and statistical concepts and (b) to develop the skills to apply those concepts and techniques for real-life data analyses using a widely-used spreadsheet/data analyses tool, MS Excel.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to read the required textbook chapters for each session. There are some homework assignments and one data analysis (writing) project in addition to the midterm and final examination preparation. Students are expected to submit all written assignments (homework assignments and the data analysis project) on time. Preparation for each class session: Approximately 100 minutes Review of each session and regular assignment work: Approximately 100 minutes.
