Selected authors include Lu Xun, Mao Dun, Yu Dafu, Lao She, Zhang Ailing, and the recent Nobel Prize laureates Gao Xingjian and Mo Yan, and others.

1. To read some major works in modern Chinese fiction 2. To consider modern Chinese literature in the context of Asian literature 3. To think and write critically
