Regular attendance is expected. Class participation includes one group presentation. "Report assignments" include two short essays during the semester.

概要
This course introduces students to selected canonical texts in Western literature. This year, students will read three modern novels that have been influential in terms of formal innovation and themes. Topics of discussion include: Bildungsroman; literature and visuality; feminism; postcolonialism; and history and literature. We will pay special attention to various film adaptations of these novels. No prerequisites.
目標
At the end of the course, students are expected: - To gain a good understanding of selected canonical texts in Western literature - To learn to appreciate literary texts in its original historical and artistic contexts - To understand theoretical approaches to literature, such as formalism, feminism, etc., and use them to appreciate selected texts - To understand issues related to film adaptation of literature
