概要
By the end of this course, students will have a basic level of experience in translating a range of texts and will have compiled a small portfolio of critiqued translations. Students will have developed an understanding of both the practical aspects of translation and the theoretical side of translation studies. Students will acquire not only a broader, deeper, and more reasoned approach to translation, but also a more objective, critical, and professional approach to their own English translation and writing skills and techniques. Materials used in the class include business, finance, and Japanese literature and culture.
目標
Students should become aware of the difference between Japanese and English, both linguistically and culturally. To this end, students will acquire the necessary knowledge of translation in general and translation techniques in particular. Specifically, students should be able to translate Japanese materials related to Japanese culture and business into English.
