ECONOMICS OF HEALTH AND HEALTH CARE POLICY*

Prerequisite: Any of the following microeconomics courses; IBE307 (Economic Analysis of Labor Markets) OR IBE311 (Intermediate Microeconomics) OR IBE333 (Development Economics). Students must have solid understanding of microeconomics principles and ability to apply concepts to explain economic activities. [Note: If you do not meet the prerequisite but still want to enroll in this course, please talk to the instructor. The instructor may give you a special permission if your background is deemed sufficient. Not obtaining a permission is a sufficient reason for receiving an F grade.] This course introduces students to the application of economic theory to health-related markets such as health care markets and insurance markets. Good and services exchanged in those markets are different from other consumer goods. Public agencies as well as private decision-makers play very important roles in the health-related markets. In this course, we will explore how we and the society as a whole choose to provide and pay for health-related goods and services. 目標

The goal of this course is to understand the basic concepts of health economics and to be able to explain related issues in real life using these concepts. You are also expected to be able to discuss and evaluate health care policies critically.
