概要
This course is designed for students who are impact-driven and have a desire to help create positive change in the world. Recognizing that students may be coming from backgrounds in either business or the liberal arts, this course provides interdisciplinary content and adaptive assignment design to be responsive to students’ needs and interests. We will look at a variety of cases of NGOs, from the Japan-local level to the G7/G20/UN global levels. We will also explore diverse areas of interest, from climate justice to youth empowerment to gender equality. This course covers the theory and practice of developing, sustaining, and managing an NGO. No previous experience in NGO work or leadership is required. This course will use the textbook Cases in Nonprofit Management: A Hands-On Approach to Problem Solving (2017) by Pat Libby & Laura Deitrick and other supplementary articles. Class announcements, assignments, supplementary readings, and other important class information will be posted and available on Moodle. Students are strongly encouraged to sign up for Moodle. The instructor is an NGO founder with a focus on gender equality, migrant support, and youth empowerment. She has many years of experience in civil society leadership within the G7 and G20, OECD, and with various departments in the United Nations.
