概要

The purpose of this course is to enhance your ability to do the job of a general manager responsible for strategic performance. The emphasis of this course is on the strategic analyses, decisions, and actions that organizations take to create sustainable competitive advantages, with the consideration of both the internal condition and the external environment. It covers roles and responsibilities of general managers and formulation and implementation of strategy, including concepts such as process and content of strategy, interrelations between corporations and their environments, interrelations among different functional areas of management, and role of management systems in implementing strategy. The instructor of the course has work experience as a plant manager in an industrial valves manufacturing company. His knowledge of the actual practice of strategic planning and management, and decision-making activities shall contribute to the attainment of the pedagogical objectives of the course. Prerequisite: - IBE300 (Principles of Management), OR - IBE353 (International Business)

目標

• To understand the fundamental principles of and relationships among business functions such as: finance, human resources, marketing, and operations. • To introduce students some basic concepts and theories in strategic management by understanding the external environment of a firm, analyzing the resources and capabilities of a firm, identifying the strategic problems and stakeholders of the firm, assessing the firm’s current strategy, and designing ethical strategic solutions. • To provide a basic understanding of the nature and dynamics of the strategy formulation and implementation processes as they occur in complex organizations.

授業外の学習

Case studies will be assigned frequently which discuss the application of the principles of strategic management in different firms and organizations. Students are required to work on the cases and make reports/presentations. ● Review class lecture (60 minutes). ● Work on case assignment (60 minutes) ● Work on paper assignment (70 minutes)
