目標

--To provide students with a broad exposure to issues in the social, cultural, political, and economic history of Japanese imperialism in East Asia --To provide students with an opportunity to read and discuss an array of English-language primary source materials --To foster the development of student’s critical thinking skills to evaluate and use historical source materials --To strengthen the student’s ability to produce academic reports and essays

授業外の学習

Read assigned readings as announced weekly in classes, before coming to each class (80 minutes). Prepare class presentations, reports, essays, discussion questions, and take notes on lectures and readings *to enable class participation and academic discussions* (120). Additionally, students will need to study for the final in-class exam.

Details on readings will be provided at the first meeting. Much of the course readings will be available on Moodle, through JSTOR and Project MUSE databases, or as photocopied handouts in class.
