概要

The general readings introduce to the study of gender and women in Japan’s history. By dividing the course into topics, such as theoretical approaches and “private” and “public” spheres, we will investigate a wide range of issues in terms of ideological constructions of womanhood and gendered realities with a focus on pre-twentieth century Japan.

目標

The course will offer an entry into the theory of women studies and also introduce tools to critically analyze cultural differences and gender differences while at the same time learning more about Japan’s history.
