BASIC CHINESE 2*

概要

This is the next course for those who have mastered the basic rules of Chinese Romanization (the Hanyu Pinyin) to study more sentence patterns and grammar through model sentences, dialogues and paragraphs. It also provides a broad perspective on Chinese culture through videos, pictures of actual objects and items. Students will be required to work in pairs and small groups most of the time, so active participation is required for the success of the class.

目標

At the end of the semester, students are generally expected to have achieved the following abilities. a) Listening and speaking: Ability to understand the natural Chinese language materials at the basic level, to accomplish daily communicative tasks such as the following with coherence, accuracy, and fluency.  Asking and talking about one’s age, birthplace  Talking about one’s likes and dislikes  Doing shopping  Expressing one’s ability, desire or need  Making or asking for suggestions  Making an invitation  Making a complaint or an apology b) Reading and writing: Ability to read stories/dialogues expressed by frequently used sentence structures and about 400 mostly frequently used characters in the Chinese language. Ability to write in Chinese about what students are able to say, as well as simple passages.

授業外の学習

Students need to spend the time for self-study (preview and review). Please have a look at the new vocabularies prior to class, in particular its meaning and pronounciation. Review the text, vocabulary, and exercises for each lesson using the audio data from the textbook. There is a Language Learning Commons(LLC) on the 1st floor of building 6. There are many books about learning Chinese, workbooks on Chinese proficiency tests, and Chinese movies. Please feel free to visit if you are interested in improving your Chinese.
