概要
Overview This course starts with a simple overview of Japanese civil society and nonprofit NGOs but the main part of the course will focus on volunteering/interning at local organizations. By actually getting involved and experiencing the day-to-day work of nonprofits directly, students will gain new knowledge, skills and values while also learning more about themselves. In order to make a meaningful contribution, the students need to set ambitious and realistic goals, keep track of their experiences and learnings and reflect upon their own work. Progress checks in the form of group meetings enable students to share ideas and get tips along the way. The course comes together with students’ presentations connecting student experience and interests to their plan developed at the start. • Course language: English, Host Language English or Japanese • Class format: Face-to-face (internship) & Synchronous (online) classes • Students will be able to access Zoom information from April 1 on Moodle • Minimum required outside class work: At least 190 minutes per session. • Appox. 50 hours of service learning, volunteering or interning => direct interaction over 10 weeks of the semester => 4-10 hours per week • Out of class work will include reading and online research assignments as well as weekly reflection • material, presentation and report preparation. if there are many students in the first day -there will be an in-class lottery for the first class.
